WTOR Crew Missions Guide – Overview
The Crew Mission professions is a new feature unlike anything seen in an MMORPG before. There are 4 mission types and you can learn them to be used as a Crew Skill for your professions. Mission trainers are found in the capital city for each faction in the main commercial area. Mission skills have their own level just like a craft or gathering skill. Use these skills to make money, make new items or enchant your gear.
The mission professions allows you to send your companions on mini-quests, which costs credits and time. When they return they mave materials or other rewards from the mission that goes towards your other professions if you picked the ones that go together.
When your leveling, Crew Missions are a great way to earn some extra credit and make use of your companions. To send a companion out on a mission, press the “n” key to bring up the Crew Skills tab, then click on the icon of the Mission next to that companion’s name, select your mission, and then click send. You can also click the icon next to your companions name and choose what you want them to do.
SWTOR Crew Missions List
There are four types of missions that you can learn as one of your three Crew Skills in SWTOR:
- Diplomacy – pairs with Biochem (provides medical supplies)
- Investigation – pairs with Armstech (provides researched compounds)
- Treasure Hunter – pairs with Artificing (provides gemstones)
- Underworld – pairs with Armormech, Cybertech, and Synthweaving (provides underworld metals and luxury cloth)

Diplomacy
Diplomacy provides three major rewards: light side or dark side points (depending on the mission you select), medical supplies, and companion gifts (note: all missions offer companion gifts as a reward).
Medical Supplies are required by Biochem. The resale value of these is likely not going to be that great because players looking to change alignments will end up with a lot of extra medical supplies they will be looking to high, and Biochems will pick up Diplomacy themselves. Naturally, all Biochems will want to pick up Diplomacy, as you will need the medical supplies to make your better items.
The most interesting thing about the Diplomacy class is that it provides alignment points. If you want to change alignments once you reach max level, you can always pick up Diplomacy and earn points that way. This also can help keep your alignment if your guild is the opposite alignment that you are and you end up losing points every time you raid.
Investigation
Investigation provides three primary rewards: Researched Compounds, schematics, and companion gifts (note: all mission-types can earn companion gifts).
Researched Compounds are the primary reward you can earn from Investigation, and these are used by the Armstech class to create blaster weapons. As a result, all Armstech players will absolutely want to pick up Investigation.
Additionally, Investigation earns schematics, which can be incredibly valuable. As a result, players looking to just earn money or looking for missions to use on their alt should seriously consider Investigation. New recipes are not easy to get in SWTOR, and Investigation makes it a lot easier.
Treasure Hunter
Treasure Hunter provides three primary rewards: Lockboxes, Gemstones, and Companion Gifts (note: all mission-types get access to companion gifts).
Gemstones are used by Artificers for many of their crafts, particularly prototype grade and above. Due to this, all Artifice players need to pick up Treasure Hunter as getting access to the variety of gems you need will otherwise be a pain.
Treasure Hunter also provides Lockboxes, which typically provide credits. Occasionally, there will be a green item inside of the Lockbox, and rarely, you will find a rare item. Generally, the number of credits the lockbox provides is just enough to break even on the mission (if that), so you really need to get the prototype items in order to actually make any credits off this portion of Treasure Hunter.
Underworld Trading
Underworld Trading provides four types of rewards: Underworld Metals, Luxury Cloth, Companion Gifts, and an occasional schematic for customized armor.
Underworld Metals (Armormech, Cybertech) and Luxury Cloth (Synthweaving) are crafting goods and high-demand items, simply because 3 of the 6 crafts use this mission type. As a result, if you are any one of these three crafts, you will want to pick up Underworld Trading.
Underworld Trading is not a bad mission type to pick up at all for earning credits, simply because so many crafts need the rewards it provides. It is not a skill to pick for schematics though – Investigation is much better suited towards that purpose.
Picking a Mission Type & Earning Credits
When it comes to making credits through the mission system, it is possible, but only the most dedicated players will earn tons of credits using missions. The problem is it is very easy to do missions, and you can send multiple companions out at the same time.
Additionally, players are limited to just one craft, which means that most players will inevitably pick up 1 mission skill, especially when you consider some players will skip crafts altogether and just do missions and gathering.
As a result, competition will be intense when it comes to actually making some money from this system. Likely your best bet is to try to break even on most missions and make your money on the rare drops.
Out of all the missions, likely the most valuable trade will be the Investigation missions, simply because they provide recipes for all of the crafts, but only Armstechs need Researched compounds.
Picking the Right Mission Skill
To keep things simple, your best bet is to pick whichever mission type supports your craft. If you are just in it for the money, look to Investigation as this will provide valuable schematics unlike other missions which typically only provide materials that support your crafts.
If you want two mission types as you are not interested in crafting, consider Underworld as a second mission skill set, as the materials it collects are used by the most crafting skills.
However, I think that picking Splicing, Investigation, and Scavenging (two gathering trades and one mission type) is going to be the most profitable for the least amount of effort. While you might not get to be a mega-rich character without crafting, you should be able to at least earn enough credits to buy the gear and mods you want without any substantial effort or concerted farming just by leveraging your crew skills.
